MASE STARTS COLLABORATION WITH YDALIR HOTEL

Norwegian startup MASE Home and Ydalir Hotel have unveiled a revolutionary pilot project that merges cutting-edge robotics with sustainable design. Together, they’re transforming one of Ydalir’s compact hotel rooms into a dynamic, multi-purpose space that redefines what’s possible in modern hospitality.

From Sleeping to Working or Training

At the heart of this innovation lies the MASE BED—a robotic bed that seamlessly transitions into the ceiling with the press of a button, converting the space into a fully functional office. This first-of-its-kind solution in Europe is designed to double usable space while halving the environmental footprint of traditional construction.

Innovation Meets Responsibility: The Perfect Partnership

Ydalir Hotel is a gift from Smedvig and was opened in 2018. It’s a pioneering, socially responsible hotel, which donates its profits to UiS, earmarked for research and education. The hotel shareholders include the largest hotel chains in Norway as well as several local companies within the hotel and restaurant industry.

“The hotel aims to be a research arena for testing innovative solutions. So we are very proud that we are now the venue for a brand new pilot project in accommodation with MASE. We believe that this could be the start of something that can develop the industry in terms of sustainability and innovation,“ says the General Manager of Ydalir Hotel, Martin Sagen.

Smart Spaces for a Sustainable Future

The MASE BED represents a leap forward in space efficiency and sustainability. By allowing rooms to serve multiple purposes, this innovative furniture minimizes the need for large, resource-intensive spaces. The impact on the environment is profound—smaller rooms reduce the materials, energy, and emissions required for construction and maintenance.

Experience the Transformation

The high-tech pilot room at Ydalir Hotel is now open to guests. This interactive trial invites visitors to test the MASE BED and explore how innovation and robotics can redefine their experience of space. Guests are encouraged to share feedback, which will play a vital role in shaping the next generation of space-saving solutions.

The Vision for Tomorrow

Urbanization puts immense strain on natural resources, construction emissions, and space availability. It challenges industries to rethink how we build and use our spaces. With a focus on reducing the environmental footprint and reimagining the potential of small spaces, MASE Home is creating a blueprint for living sustainably in a world of finite resources.

“Our goal is to make compact living not just a necessity but a desirable lifestyle. With the MASE BED, we’re not just creating furniture—we’re creating a movement toward a more sustainable and innovative future,” says the MASE Home team.
